We get a parrot at home
Before you start a parrot at home, you need to decide what you need a bird for. Some buy birds for breeding, others because of the bright color and beautiful singing, and still others want to try themselves as a trainer and teach the bird to speak. Before buying a parrot, you should take into account the nature of the bird, how much time you can devote to it, you should also ask the family members whether they want a new pet at home.
How to choose a parrot? In a healthy bird, the wings fit tightly to the body and the eyes are lively and shiny. Voice and breathing should be without whistling and wheezing sounds. You should not buy parrots, which have a sluggish and dull look, their beak is curved and the chest cell is strongly protruding. Also, you should not buy a bird that has bare spots on its tummy – the bird has a pretty bad habit of pulling out feathers to itself and it is very difficult to wean the pet. By the way, such a habit can be found in many parrots, for example, in gray cockatoo, macaw and Amazonian cockatoo.
A big role in choosing a bird is played by its age. The young individual quickly gets used to the changes, and it is more agile and playful. Such a parrot will be more diligently hatching eggs if you buy it for breeding, and lends itself well to training and training.
And so, the choice is made and the bird in your home. You have to remember that after the purchase, the parrot must be kept in quarantine for about two weeks, if you still have birds at home.
The first week, watch carefully for the individual, especially how much food it consumes. The second week is to pay attention to the behavior of the bird. If you see that there are no signs, then you can release an individual to the rest of the birds with peace of mind.
Pet nutrition is crucial for breeding and growing birds. Very often, the owners feed their pets with one grain, and there are also those who feed them with bread and meat, that is, homemade food. Birds, being naturally voracious, pounce on a new food, which in some cases leads to a disastrous result. The individual has a disturbed metabolism, it begins to pluck itself and may eventually die. The bird ration should include not only cereals, but also minerals. You can also feed them with worms, eggs, wheat porridge, moistened with bread, carrots and lettuce, as well as add germinated grain to food. Observing and adhering to all the rules, your bird will always feel comfortable and healthy.
